As the smell of instant coffee swivels in the air and square tray cakes are served, what time of the year it is. It’s none other than corporate work office party season, and although there are joys mainly about the weekend off we get for Christmas, there are also stresses, like what the hell do I wear to a corporate party, or just any other work party?
If you’re anything like me, a certified type B slightly ADHD press people pleaser, you want to wear the right thing, but that dress code isn’t as clear as day.
As I delved into a glass of wine after the endurance test of work, the thing that was playing on my mind was: what the hell do I wear to this Christmas function? And then I went down a wormhole of psychological questioning: why do I care so much about what I’m going to wear?
Does this stem from a feeling of feeling like the weird girl in school, or to the time when I was seven at a family function when my mother dressed me in trousers instead of being dressed in a pink dress like all my cousins, and they ended up calling me a boy? I wonder if it was that? Or thoughts about the patriarchy and how we as women are primarily judged on how we look rather than what we do.
