There’s snow outside and chilly air, which means only one thing: it’s watch party season.
It’s that time when you invite your dearest friends to camp out in front of the TV and binge-watch your favorite series or saga.
No watch party is complete without the perfect snacks or drinks
.
Read below for the ultimate watch party guide.
Disclaimer: Below is a list of ideas that you can implement to make your watch party more fun.
What really matters when creating the perfect movie night is the company you choose, and with the right company, you don’t need perfection.

So if you’re like me and stressing about the theme or snacks, remember it’s the thought that counts, and planning can really help keep this stress at bay.
Choosing the right theme
Tip 1
This can be a challenging task, as a group of people often have different tastes, and some may even have to make compromises.
My best tip
for choosing the right theme for kids

- Keep it generic, thinking of big blockbusters or classics that everyone grew up watching.
- Some recommendations are
- Harry Potter series
- Twilight
- Stranger things
- Star Wars
- Lord of the Rings
Tip 2
Keeping movies that are universally rated is a good call, as nothing is as awkward as looking at a kiss scene with your family.
With that being said, if it’s a girls’ night or a romantic evening, you might be searching for something a little different

Here are some recommendations
Throwback films
They are a great way to relive happy memories or just simply to be transported back in time.
Award film session
There’s nothing better than the anticipation of sitting down and waiting for the winner of an award to be revealed.
Hosting a watch party for an award show like the Oscars or America’s Got Talent is a great bonding experience.
International films
When you can’t go to a place, why not watch a film that was made and produced in said place? It’s like traveling without the expense of flights and hotels.

Scary movie marathon
There’s nothing like watching a scary movie in the company of others, as the excitement and adrenaline are incomparable.
Reality TV
When a gossip session is needed between you and your girls, there is nothing to set the scene more than watching reality TV; it’s dramatic, funny, and unserious at times.
Making your place watch party ready
The first thing to consider when getting ready for a movie night is where you are going to set up.
If you’re like me, living in a small apartment, you might be like I have a couch, but that’s about it.
That’s where you have to be creative.

Ideas for watch party setup
Make-shift tent
The key to making a cozy tent setup is simple,, all you need is a couch and a blanket.
I know what you’re thinking: I’m an adult,
how can I possibly fit in a tent?
I get you, it’s a valid concern.
The great thing about making your own tent is that it doesn’t have to be small; you can adjust the measurements depending on how many people are there.

Choose the right space.
- The key to choosing the right spot is making sure there is enough floor space for all guests,
- It is also essential that you are near a wall or couch for support.
- I find living rooms the best as they generally have more than enough floor space to play with.
Build your base
- Comfort is key when creating the base of your tent, so gather all your cozy items, think big cushions, duvets, and blankets.
Top tip: add cushions to the floor before adding a duvet blanket. This creates a soft place to watch the film.

Ensemble the frame
- Create a frame for your tent by using furniture to hold everything up, such as the back of your couch, kitchen chairs, etc.
- Drape your favorite blanket across the back of the sofas and connect them
- Add books to the back to stabilize the blankets, making sure nothing collapses.
Now you have a perfect tent, everything else will fall into place.
Use lighting to set the tone.

- The type of lighting you use will depend on what mood you want to create. If you want a scary mood for watching a horror film, I’d suggest using subtle lighting. Consider using fairy lights, candles, or LED lamps for a subtle glow.
Technology choices
- Decided on where you are going to show the film.
- Something to bear in mind, many people are going to watch the movie.
- If it’s a smaller group, I would recommend using a TV.
- If it’s a bigger group, investing in a projector is a great idea.

Recipe 1 idea
An ultimate guide for a watch party would not be complete without food.
- With the perfect balance of sweet and savory, charcuterie boards are a crowd pleaser for sure.
- If you’re unsure of what a charcuterie board is, you’re not alone. I was once in your shoes; all I knew about it was that it was a dish that was French.
- According to Google, a charcuterie board is defined as an assortment of savory and sweet foods it includes cheese’s traditionally cured meats, and accompaniments.
- It originated in France in the Middle Ages for the practical reason that refrigerators didn’t exist. This is why meat was cured.

Charcuterie grocery list
Cheeses

Add a bit of variety in flavor and texture to the board.
- A soft, malleable cheese such as brie or Camembert.
- A strong cheese to add flavor, goat’s cheese is perfect for this
- A hard cheese, my favorite is peppered cheddar.
Cured meat

- Add color and flavor to the board
- Salami, my favorite, is spicy salami.
- Prosciutto can be expensive, but the ribbons add a beautiful texture.
The crunch

This is essential as crunchy foods, such as crackers, act as a bed for the other toppings.
- Crackers: Add a box of water crackers and a whole-grain cracker box for a bit of variety.
Fruit and veg

Fruit adds contrast. The sweeter the fruit is, the better. Green grapes and pink lady apples are my go-to.
Picked veg
No charcuterie board is complete without pickled veg
Cornichons are a great option for sharing, they are basically mini pickles, and who doesn’t like pickles?

Garnish
You can use some of your favorite herbs to garnish the board. My personal favorite is basil, as it is both sweet and savory.

How do I assemble the charcuterie board?
It’s a valid question and a tricky one if you don’t know where to start
Below is a guide on how to assemble
How to assemble the charcuterie board
- Grab your bowls to anchor the food; a variety of different sizes works best, from tiny bowls to cereal bowls. Fill the smaller ones with your sauces and the larger for fruit and crackers.

- To add variety and texture to the board, cut cheeses with cookie cutters for example, hearts or star-shaped. If you don’t have cookie cutters but a creative eye, feel free to cut out your favorite characters for movies, etc.
- Believe it or not, the possibilities are endless with cured meat. You can create ruffles by folding them in half, and even roses for a romantic evening.

- This is the easiest step: get out your crackers, alternate them, and place them around the bowl, almost like dominoes that have fallen.
- Look in your pantry to see if you have any nuts or dried fruit. These are great to fill in any gaps

Top tip
If you want to make your charcuterie board feel more authentic, leave the cheeses out of the fridge 30 minutes before serving.
- Get out your herbs, garnish with fresh herbs, or sprinkle some dried herbs over the cheeses and meats.

What if my guest is bored at the watch party?

I get you, rewatching old films can be boring at times, especially when you know every twist and turn.
A great idea to spice up the movie session is to play a board game.
My favorite is movie bingo
What do I need to play movie bingo?
- Bingo cards
- Pens/markers
- A prize

How do I play movie Bingo
- Hand out the cards and pens, and ensure that everyone knows the rules
- Before you press play on the film, set a timer for 5 minutes. During this time, everyone will fill their bingo squares with answers to your questions

tip
ChatGPT is your best friend when coming up with questions and answers for movie tropes
- Begin the movie, and when the answers to the questions on plots and characters come up, your guest should say bingo.
It’s that simple
Wow, that was a ramble.

I hope you got some tips on how to create a watch party. Remember, with these things, it’s always the thought that counts and not to stress over little details like the color of the bingo cards.
